NJCIC ACTION ALERT

Stop NJ Senate Bill S1036 from Granting In-state Tuition to Illegal Immigrants

Urgent action needed:  NJ Senate Bill S1036 allows college aged illegal immigrants to go to colleges and universities in New Jersey at a discounted, in-state rate. The difference between the in-state and the regular tuition could amount to almost $50,000 for a 4 year education, all of which will be paid by YOU, the hardworking, taxpaying citizen of New Jersey, if this bill is passed. The cost of providing high education to the college age illegal immigrant population of New Jersey could amount to 100s of millions of dollars over the next few years. All this while New Jersey is sliding into bankruptcy.

New Jersey citizens pay taxes into the system so that their children will be able to go to college at a discounted rate when they reach college age. If illegal immigrants want to go to college, why should New Jersey citizens pay the freight for them?

With only 2 meeting days left in the 2009 NJ Legislature session, illegal immigrants and their advocates made sure that S1036 was on the agenda for the Senate Budget and Appropriation Committee that will meet on Monday, January 4, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Committee Room 4, 1st Floor, State House Annex, Trenton, NJ.

Here’s the link giving details on the bill: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/bills/BillView.asp?BillNumber=S1036

It is essential that as many of you as possible show up at this hearing to testify against this bill. I was told by legislative aides to the Senate Budget Committee that you can just show up and sign up to testify but here are the phone numbers to call if you want to make sure:

NJCIC ACTION ALERT

Tell Corzine and Your Representatives in Trenton That You Oppose In-state Tuition for Illegal Immigrants

Governor Corzine’s Blue Ribbon Panel on Immigrant Policy has recommended in-state tuition for illegal immigrants.

Corzine has said that he approves of this recommendation and there are 2 bills in Trenton which, if passed, will
a
llow illegal immigrants to qualify for in-state tuition rates at public institutions of high education.

Bill A194 was introduced in the Trenton Assembly by Assemblymen Gordon Johnson and Vainieri Huttle.
Bill S1036 was introduced in the Trenton Senate by Senators Ronald Rice and Sandra Cunningham.

If these bills pass, the following will happen:

  • Illegal immigrants will compete with innocent American students for limited seats in college at taxpayer expense
  • Illegal immigrants will be attracted to come to New Jersey where they can get a college education at taxpayer expense
  • US federal law will be violated – the 1996 Federal Immigration Nationality Act, section 8 USC 162 explicitly states that illegal immigrants “shall not be eligible on the basis of residence within a State for any postsecondary education benefit unless a
citizen or national of the United States is eligible for such a benefit”

Are you struggling to pay for college education for your children? Do you want your taxes to pay for the college education of illegal immigrants? How do you feel about having this extra burden place on you?

No one is saying that illegal immigrants can’t go to college in New Jersey. But why should New Jersey taxpayers
foot the bill?

Call Corzine and you representatives in Trenton today and tell them you oppose in-state tuition for illegal immigrants.

You can call Corzine at 609-292-6000

You can get contact information for your Trenton representatives here:  http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/districts/municipalities.asp  Just click on the link for your town and you will get the names and contact information for your 2 Assemblymen and your Senator.

NJCIC ACTION ALERT

Call Your US Congressman and Senators and Tell Them You Want E-Verify Included in the Stimulus Bill

Stimulus Bill Passes Senate Without E-Verify
Focus Now Shifts to House-Senate Conference

Earlier today, the stimulus bill passed the Senate by a vote of 61 to 37. Unfortunately, unlike the House-passed version of the bill, the Senate-passed version failed to include the critical E-Verify provisions that would extend E-Verify and that would ensure that those jobs created by the stimulus bill would go to people who are legally authorized to work in the United States.

NOW IS THE TIME TO TELL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE
AND YOUR SENATORS YOU SUPPORT E-VERIFY!!!

Right now, the House version of the stimulus bill includes E-Verify language, but the Senate version does not. The House and Senate must now establish a "conference" and appoint "conferees" to work out the differences between the House and Senate versions of the stimulus bill. The conferees will be responsible for negotiating what the final package looks like and these conferees alone will determine the fate of E-Verify in the Stimulus Bill.

Unless this language is included in the "conference report", Congress and the Obama Administration will end up using over $1 trillion dollars of taxpayer money to create jobs for illegal aliens.  Just last week, economic experts estimated that without the E-Verify language the stimulus bill would create at least 300,000 jobs for illegal aliens. Only in Washington would it make sense to spend over $1 trillion dollars to "put America back to work," but then not ensure that the new jobs created with your tax dollars go only to legal American workers.

If the conference report does not include any E-Verify requirements, this important program will not only be in danger of expiring next month but it may mean that hundreds of thousands of potential jobs for American workers will be compromised!!

Call Your U.S. Representative and your Senators and Tell Them You Want E-Verify to be included in the Stimulus Bill. Tell Them:

  • You support E-Verify and want this important program reauthorized.
  • It is irresponsible and immoral to spend taxpayer money on creating new jobs without requiring employers receiving the money to use E-Verify.
  • You want the conference report to include the House-passed E-Verify language.

During last year's amnesty debate, you helped to shut down the Capitol Switchboard with thousands of calls.  Let's do the same thing again today!

To contact your Representative and Senators, call the Capitol Switchboard: 202.224.3121. Remember if you can't get through to their DC offices, please call your elected officials district offices and make sure your voice is heard.

When you have contacted your own Representative and your Senators, please call these House and Senate Leaders and send them the same message.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH)

202.225.4000

  NJCIC ACTION ALERT

CONTACT GOV. CORZINE. TELL HIM YOU OPPOSE DRIVERS' LICENSES AND IN-STATE TUITION FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS

About a year ago Gov. Corzine established a blue ribbon panel and gave them the job of offering recommendations in regards to illegal immigration. Although the panel has not yet completed their final report, it has been leaked to the press that they are planning to recommend giving drivers’ licenses and in-state tuition to illegal immigrants.

IT IS TIME TO MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD IN TRENTON! As many New Jersey citizens as possible need to contact Gov. Corzine and tell him that you are opposed to both recommendations.

You can reach Gov. Corzine as follows:

             By Mail: Jon F. Corzine

                         125 W. State St.
                         PO BOX 001
                         Trenton, NJ 08625

            By Phone:  609-292-6000

            By Fax:  609-292-3454

Letters, faxes, and phone calls are much more effective than e-mails. From what I’ve been told, e-mails to politicians are generally disregarded as they can be computer generated in massive quantities and don’t necessarily reflect public opinion very accurately.

If you do contact Gov. Corzine’s office, please let me know by sending an e-mail to info@njcic.com with the words “I Contacted Corzine” in the subject line and/or text.

As more states around the US take measures to crack down on illegal immigration while New Jersey offers them more benefits, it is not hard to see that our problem with illegal immigration will only worsen with time. Contacting Gov. Corzine to tell him you oppose his panel’s recommendations may be one of the most significant things you can do to fight illegal immigration in New Jersey.

Call Senator Menendez and Tell Him to Reauthorize E-Verify

Our own NJ Senator Bob Menendez continues to hold up reauthorization of E-Verify in his Senate Committee.

Here’s a brief summary of the facts: E-verify is a voluntary federal program which allows employers to verify
that their employees have valid social security numbers. E-verify was established several years ago by Congress
and is due to expire in November, 2008. A bill to reauthorize it for 5 years has already passed in the House of
Representatives and has gone on to the Senate.

Senator Bob Menendez is now refusing to allow the bill to leave his Senate Committee and go to the Senate
floor for a vote unless an attachment is added to recapture 560,000 green cards that were not issued in the past
few years and issue them now. In other words, he will not allow E-Verify to continue unless we allow 560,000
new immigrants into the US!

Call Senator Menendez’ office at 202-224-4744. Tell him that you are a New Jersey voter and
that you are fed up with his obstructionist antics. Tell him to stop blocking reauthorization
of E-Verify.

And, while you’re at it, ask him what he thinks 560,000 new workers will be doing in the US when we have a
national unemployment rate of over 6% and American citizens are having trouble finding jobs.

Make your voice heard! Believe me, if enough NJ citizens call, we can make a difference!

PETITION TO PARDON US BORDER AGENTS SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR DOING THEIR JOB!

Two US Border Agents have been sentenced to decade long prison terms for apprehending an illegal alien at our border.

Almost as outrageous is that the illegal alien drug smuggler, who was given immunity for testifying against the agents, is now suing the US for $5 million, claiming he was permanently injured.

Please sign a petition calling for the President to pardon these two Border Agents. Click the link below for the full story and the petition.
